The Controller/Staff Accountant will handle administrative and accounting related functions and be the "go-to" person for the company. We're seeking a take-chargeadministrative professional with excellent bookkeeping, organization, and communication skills to keep our busy office running efficiently. Must be comfortable working independently to make smart decisions while also working collaboratively with the team.


Location: Des Moines, Iowa 50317

Desired Start Date: ASAP

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process and monitor accounts payable and receivable (entering expenses and paying invoices, monthly reconciliation) and handle check/EFT receipts and bank deposits accurately and timely.
  • Create and update management regarding financial reports.
  • Onboard new employees to ensure all required information is accurate, complete, and entered into the system, and provide maintenance of personnel records.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment through communication, collaboration, and respect.
  • Interact with customers, vendors, and employees over the phone and in-person to answer questions and resolve problems.
  • Monitor and purchase supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality concerning company financials, employees, and salaries.
  • Assist owners as needed with requests and special projects.
  • Gather, enter, and process weekly payroll accurately and timely.


SKILL & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with employees, vendors, customers, and the public.
  • Independent and resourceful with excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong team player and collaborator who contributes to a positive company culture.
  • Excellent organization, time-management, and multi-tasking skills to handle a variety of tasks with ease.
  • Attention to detail to ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and correctly.
  • Flexible and able to adjust to the work volume peaks of a seasonal business (peak times April through June and heavy snow removal months).
  • Proficient with technology (devices, apps, cloud services, software, etc.) and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to own and manage challenges.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of administrative support and accounting experience in a role that requires similar skills.
  • Excellent book keeping skills and knowledge of accounting. Experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
